We distill the essence of a landscape in the form of fragrance. We sustainably harvest small quantities of the signature aromatic trees, shrubs, wildflowers, and fungi. Then steam distill and tincture those materials to capture the distinctive aromas of these wild places.

Hurley Stone House is an early 18th century Dutch Estate in the Hudson Valley, New York. It is probably the earliest house that you can stay in in New York state. You can read more about our house here: hurleystonehouse.com . The Mercantile is our online shop.

Distilling the essence of place.

The Canadian boreal forest is visible in satellite imagery as a broad green band stretching from coast to coast between the northern tundra and southern temperate forests and grasslands. We are currently developing a fragrance wildcrafted from this region. The boreal forest is the world's largest biome apart from the oceans.

All our products are produced by us in very small batches. We harvest, distill, infuse, bottle, label and ship by hand. We  start with a place we love, explore it's characteristic aromatic botanicals, negotiate access with landowners to ethically and sustainably wildcraft our raw ingredients. Experiment to find the right balance of pure organic and wildcrafted essences. Where a plant in a landscape we are working with provides a characteristic aroma but is too rare or endangered in that environment, then instead of wild harvesting it we find the nearest equivalent organic essential oil and use that.

Our fragrances are 100% botanical, organic and vegan. Vegan in this context means cruelty free - not tested on animals.

Here at the Hurley Stone House Mercantile we also offer a range of complementary household items. Culinary boards hand made from select pieces of local hardwoods - spalted Maple, curly Maple, quilted Maple, Black Walnut, Elm. Hudson Valley Beeswax candles. As well as items related to our early 18th Century Hudson Valley Dutch Estate - our recipe book and Gift Certificates.
